“Devotions for Dads” was developed over several years as a tool for personal reflection and family devotion by Rick Wertz with the Faithful Fathering Initiative in Texas as part of FFIT’s ongoing work with dads. The original inspiration for the book was research published by the Center for Alcohol and Substance Abuse showing that “eating dinner together as a family” is the single most effective way to keep kids off drugs. FFIT asked: How much more could a weekly 30-minute family discussion impact the kids, especially one referencing the word of God and its practical application today? As he began to formulate the Devotions, Rick introduced their use into FFIT’s workshops, studies and retreats, and the reception from the dads was very strong. He routinely gets calls and emails from men sharing how they use the Devotions beyond the original goal to enhance their:
Personal devotion time;
Devotion and discussion time with their wives; and
Men’s small group meetings and studies.
Our prayer is that the Lord will encourage you through the weekly devotions that make up “Devotions for Dads” and equip you well through the resultant discussions to grow as a faithful father, a dad that prioritizes physical presence, is engaged emotionally and leads spiritually by example.
