It was supposed to be a simple trip with the family and friends, full of sun, swimming, and baseball. Along the way, my friend and I met a couple of ballplayers. One was a journeyman being called up for his last stint in the majors; the other was an idealistic rookie getting his first shot. It was like we were looking in a mirror, and then he spoke.
