Old Testament

How to be one of God’s special people:

Summary -- Make covenant with God and serve Him with your whole heart.

1.   Exodus 19:5,6  Now therefore, if ye will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, [For Christians, we promise to trust and obey.  He promises to take care of us, if we trust and obey.] then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is mine.  And ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priest, and an holy nation.  These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the ch8ildren of Israel.  [Refer to I Peter 2:9, Revelation 1:6]

2.   Exodus 29:1-5,7,12,18,44,45  And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow them, to minister unto Me in the priest’s office: take one young bullock, and two rams without blemish, and unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened tempered with oil, and wafers unleavened anointed with oil: of wheaten flour shalt thou make them.  And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bullock and the two rams.  And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water.  And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat, and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the curious girdle of the ephod . . .[For Christians, Jesus is the offering.  The unleavened bread is purity, sincerity and truth.  I Corinth. 5:8  The garments we are to put on are the armour of light- Romans 13:12  Put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 13:14.  Ephesians 4:24, put on the new man and in Ephesians 6:11 put on the full armour of God.  In Colossians 3:12, put on the bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.  In Colossians 3:14, put on charity  In I Peter 5:5, we are told to be clothed with humility.  You can see how wearing these garments and having the anointing oil, the Holy Spirit, being cleansed by the blood of the lamb would put you in position to be one of God’s priests.] Vs 7  Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.  Vs 12  And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar. Vs 18  And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the Lord: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the Lord. [For Christians, the offering of fire is fervent prayer for ourselves and all the saints and finally for the lost.]  Vs 44  And I  will sanctify the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar: I will sanctify also both Aaron and his sons, to minister to Me in the priest’s office.  And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God. [We are the temple of the Holy Ghost.  I Corinth. 3:16 This is how it works!]

3.   Deuteronomy 7:1-16  When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, . . seven nations greater and mightier than thou; and when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them: neither shalt thou make marriages with them; . . For they will turn away thy son from following Me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.  But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.  For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto Himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.  Vs 9  Know therefore that the Lord thy God, He is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations; . . .Vs 12  Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which He sware unto thy fathers: and He will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: He will also bless the fruit of thy womb . . .  Vs 14  Thou shalt be blessed above all people: . . . And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee. [This is the way it is.  God did not send Jesus so that we can have His benefits without listening to Him.  He sent Jesus so that we can do things His way and win.]

4.   Deuteronomy 10:12  And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul . . .

5.   Deuteronomy 29:9-15  Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.  Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel . . . that thou shouldest enter into covenant with the Lord thy God, and into His oath, with the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day: that He may establish thee today for a people unto Himself, and that He may be unto thee a God, as He hath said unto thee, and as He hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.  Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath; but with him that standeth here  with us this day before the Lord our God, and also with him that is not her with us this day:

6.   Isaiah 66:2  For all those things hath Mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word.

7.   Jeremiah 7:23  But this thing commanded I them, saying, obey My voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be My people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commended you, that it may be well unto you.

8.   Jeremiah 32:38-41   And they shall be My people, and I will be their God: And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear Me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.  Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with My whole heart and with My whole soul.

9.   Luke 1:17  And He shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

10.   II Corinthians 4:2   But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

11.   I Peter 2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light:

12.   Revelation 1:5,6  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth.  Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
